This poor girl--not only has she embarrassed herself by bowling in the improper lane, but her lacy unmentionables have taken this as the moment to fall down. A perfect moment capture by a genius artist!

- It appears there is a sanitation strike as this trash from the market should have been cleaned yesterday.
- See that cooked fish with the head still on and the eyes be lookin' at you all dead? I ate that thing whole.
- Graffiti here sucks. It's everywhere and there is rarely any artifice to it. This one series of circles is kind of nice, but, again, the bar is very low.
- Palm trees have low-hanging dreadlocks of dates.
- We ate pizza.

That chick can't spell, either.
So, could they have the market again today on top of the debris from Saturday's market? How are you all faring with the sanitation workers on strike? Is it citywide or just at the fiera? Do tell.
Our dumpster was very full this morning, meaning it didn't get emptied last night like it usually is. I wondered the same thing about the market. It would had to have been damn inconvenient to set up the market in the midst of all that trash. We didn't see it, though, since we hopped a bus and spent the day in Taormina/Castelmola. Not sure how it went at the market. In the bar at the bus station I found a local paper with a story about the strike. Apparently the workers were striking because they hadn't gotten paid for September and October. (Working for IOUs.) There is some sort of budget crisis and the city didn't have the funds to pay them. Finally, they decided to stop working for free. The article was about how the city was working on getting about a million and a half Euro from somewhere to pay the workers and get them back on the job. They were working with one bank and were optimistic about getting the money, but hinted they might have other options if that fell through. I don't know much about this budget crisis, but I imagine that if there really is a shortage of funds, then they're probably going to be robbing Peter to pay Paul, here. Next month the bus drivers will be on strike. Or something, I don't know.
When we got back tonight, we didn't notice the city overrun with trash. I also didn't check our dumpster and don't really feel like going outside now. It's late and it's cold outside. They usually come empty it a little after midnight and it makes a huge racket, so if I hear something I'll post back here. I tried to find news on-line on how things were going, but Sicilians just haven't really figured out the web yet, it seems. I couldn't even find the article I read this morning in the paper on the website for the paper I read it in. The most recent news I can find is three days old, which is useless for finding out what happened today. I may just have to go out in the morning and buy a paper. Which is just so twentieth century.
